#CognitiveMusic

In my previous post that explored some of the biggest data tools on the market, I discussed that one time Watson teamed up with Grammy award winning producer, Alex Da Kid, to create #CognitiveMusic.

Watson was able to analyze five years of cultural data and the “emotional temperature” of each year. Two software’s under the Watson umbrella, Watson Alchemy Language and Watson Tone Analyzer, identified significant themes and surveyed social posts and blogs to identify the most prominent emotions. The lyrics of the top 100 songs from each week of the five-year time frame were then analyzed to understand the emotional sentiment behind each song. Watson BEAT also played a big role by examining the composition (rhythm, pitch and instrumentation) and delivered to Alex Da Kid in a data visualization built to help him interact with the software.

What came of the team up is a song called Not Easy featuring X Ambassadors, Elle King and Wiz Khalifa. The song is about heartbreak, which with the help of Watson, was discovered to be an emotion that will always resonate with all audiences. This means data analysis has gone creative and can potentially help artists with creative blocks. Check out the video for the first #CognitiveMusic track below.
